Consumables #102 Watching: Jane Eyre

With the clocks turned back and Seattle enveloped in a many-days-long downpour (I know, we are known for rain but usually it’s a mix of light mist and drizzle whereas lately it has been Waterworld up in this business), I wanted to watch something cozy. More than cozy: I wanted something atmospheric, preferably with a lot of fog in it. That should be a Netflix list: Movies with Fog. I ended up watching Jane Eyre, starring Michael Fassbender and Mia Wasikowska. And boy, did it bring the fog. Not only that, but you’ve got your moors which just ups the fog factor by at least 5.

There are approximately four metric tons of Jane Eyre film versions to be had, and which one you prefer depends on what you are looking for. I personally want three things from a Jane Eyre movie: atmosphere (see: fog comments above), creepy-factor (something is in the attic, y’all, eep!), and sexual tension (hubba hubba two hot lubbas). I would say that this one wasn’t as creepy as I wanted it to be, and the sexual tension was medium-hot instead of hot-hot (although Michael Fassbender can totally Fass my Bender and I wouldn’t complain), but the atmosphere was spot on. The shots of the countryside, the creaky old house, the shadowy glances, the saturated trees, and yes, the fog– all just what I was looking for.

Any other foggy movies I should watch?
